Vi is expanding its 5G services across West Bengal. The telecom operator has announced the availability of its 5G services in three new cities and plans to launch in seven more locations by June. The move comes after Vi rolled out 5G services in Kolkata and Siliguri last year. Vi 5G is currently available in Malda, Haldia and Berhampur, while additional rollouts are planned in Durgapur, Asansol, Habra-Ashoknagar, Burdwan, Kharagpur, Gangtok and Darjeeling over the coming weeks.
Commenting on the service expansion, Sovan Mukherjee, Business Head of Kolkata, Rest Of Bengal, Assam and North-East at Vi, said,
“We are accelerating the expansion of Vi’s 5G network across West Bengal, as we strengthen our footprint across key markets in the region. Following our earlier launches in Kolkata and Siliguri, our rollouts in Malda, Haldia and Behrampur followed by Durgapur, Asansol, Habra-Ashoknagar, Burdwan, Kharagpur, Gangtok, and Darjeeling mark important steps in our journey.”Vi 5G rollout: Cities with live services and upcoming launches in West Bengal

Cities such as Durgapur and Asansol have been identified as industrial hubs, while Haldia is a key port and commercial centre. Tourism-focused destinations, including Darjeeling and Gangtok, are also part of the expansion.
The telecom operator said the broader rollout aims to address growing demand for high-speed connectivity and support digital infrastructure across these regions.w
“Our expansion is guided by a clear focus on prioritising high demand locations spanning high data consumption centres as well as areas with significant footfall, including industrial, commercial and tourism hubs, ensuring a consistent and enhanced network experience for our users,” Mukherjee added.
The latest expansion adds to Vi’s ongoing 5G deployment efforts as telecom operators continue to extend next-generation network coverage beyond metro cities into regional markets.
